Jig_Bigga: aren’t crabs boiled alive anyways? apparently they can start producing toxins if they’re dead or something, so mosy places just boil them alive
Robbyn: @Jig_Bigga: There's bacteria present in crabs and when they die the bacteria are allowed to multiply and they're the ones who produce toxins, by boiling the crab alive you prevent the bacteria from multiplying in the first place as well as killing them off at the same time.
But that's more often the case with older crabs, younger healthy crabs carry less of that bacteria and can be killed beforehand with a knife to its brain before cooking.
