Describe This Image As Dramatically As Possible

Man_Of_Mer: My first time using PrismaColor. Really smooth, and blends well when overlapping your strokes.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: Im diggin that "shameless product placement" tag

- Reply
Man_Of_Mer: @Sasquatch_boote: My friend thought of it. We had an argument over Beats and Skullcandies; I chose the former, of course.
- Reply
TemporaryFace: I'd remove the shameless_product_placement tag for being unique and therefore heresy, but I like it too much. Instead, let's try to tag it to as many other pictures as we can.

- Reply
Man_Of_Mer: @TemporaryFace: Agreed. Let's get to it.

- Reply
tronn: Every tag is unique the first time it is used, and it can take weeks or months before becoming established. Give it time.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: Seriously, if im on here trying to look up "hardwood floors" or "lesbian foreplay" or even "baseketball" how would i find it if someone deleted the tag? Sometimes there only may be one picture for a tag, but its still going to help me find what im looking for. I can understand frivolous taggery, but frankly tagging a picture and having that tag deleted because it stands alone is nonsensical. Let the legitimate tags that stand alone remain, or else youre only complicating things and making it more difficult to find things.
- Reply
TemporaryFace: @Sasquatch_boote: Consolidate. Basketball can be absorbed by Sports. Lesbian Foreplay can be subsumed by Romance. You can't even see the tags that have only one or two items on the "full list" unless you navigate to the "show all" option, whereupon it just becomes a mess to sort through.
- Reply
MetalC0Mmander: @TemporaryFace: You can't see tags that have beeen used only once in the full list but you can search for them. It's pretty cool if I'm able to search for a particuliar picture without having to go through 3 page of similar shit.

- Reply
Man_Of_Mer: Jeez. This isn't the feedback I anticipated. Didn't know my tag would create an argument of the topic.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: @Man_Of_Mer: this is why this "board" (if i can call it that) is beautiful.
- Reply
TemporaryFace: @MetalC0Mmander: Without standardization, we get cases where the same idea is tagged differently in different pictures. Searches for that idea become incomplete and unreliable.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: TemporaryFace: but who would retag "basketball" as something else? Some tags would understandably fall under those doubled-up tags, but many wouldnt.
- Reply
MetalC0Mmander: @TemporaryFace: Well when there's a tag that's the same thing as an other then yes you can change it. But don't start removing tags to add them to a more generalised version of the thing like with "basketball" and "sport".

@Sasquatch_boote: Meh. Most "boards" on the internet, no matter their style, will end up in an argument of some sort.
- Reply
TemporaryFace: @Sasquatch_boote: Fair enough.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: @MetalC0Mmander: i dont see this as an argument. Its more of a civilized discussion. Id like to think that we are a bit classier than the rest of the internet.

- Reply
tronn: Your reasoning isn't very solid, TemporaryFace. You can very well have both 'sports' and 'baseketball' as tags at the same time, it's not like the tag cloud is going to run out of space. In fact, having lots of synonyms makes it more robust. For example I might remember that the picture I was looking for had a crying cat in it, but if I don't remember that the tagger had chosen only 'tears' as the sole tag then I'm out of luck - going through 'sadness' would include the majority of the pictures in the archive after all.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: I decree on this day that all tags are created equal. No longer shall one tag be favoured over another. Both the generalized tag and the specific tag may live in harmony. This shall be the law of the land, and all shall abide by this rule.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: In the wake of this new law, i motion that tags that may be considered comical in nature if of a high enough caliber and would have potential to be replicated.

- Reply
Man_Of_Mer: Great, amazing. Can we focus on my piece now?
- Reply
TemporaryFace: @tronn: Having lots of synonyms makes it cluttered and messy. Efficiency above all else.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: @TemporaryFace: what is "it"? Isnt it more important that we can find what we need? Thats the point of tags. I have a solution to get rid of all of the clutter: lets tag everything "art" and art alone. That way we will have absolutely no clutter.
- Reply
TemporaryFace: @Sasquatch_boote: 'It' is the interface.

But okay, let's suppose we don't consolidate. Encourage rampant synonyms. Who's going to go through the 80+ pages of artwork to make sure all the entries are tagged with every possible way they can be described? I sure as hell won't. And every time someone adds a new, equivalent tag, you'll have to go all the way through again. It's just impractical.

- Reply
Sasquatch_boote: @TemporaryFace: each picture should be tagged as thoroughly as possible when posted. We arent striving for perfection, just a more accurate system.

I feel like we are writing the constitution here.

tronn: Tagging is done on volunteer basis, as always.

AMKitsune: While we're on the subject, do any admins out there know if we'll be getting SWF support on this booru at any point? My Image tagging helper program is pretty much complete at this point. It just needs a home now. I asked Kazerad about it a while ago but haven't had a reply yet (I'm just going to assume it's going to be a while). If not, I'll see if I can find somewhere else for it (for the time being at least).
