Kazerad: @Armored-Struggle-Wagon: Only basic flips, rotates, scales, and crops. The challenge is coming up with ways to use them without being able to fillbucket a bowling pin into something more useful.
MetalC0Mmander: I was about to ask where were the heads for the bartender but then I realised. I will say we are missing the the heads for Rajirra though.
Kazerad: @MetalC0Mmander: What do you mean? She's the only khajiit I even gave faces for, figuring you could reuse her faces for the others. She just put her hair into a bun, hidden behind her head.
But in all seriousness you should post the constant of exasperation of the bartender. You don't even have to make various faces for the eyes. Or at least allows which ever contestant to add it.
Kazerad: @ammurin: Why cry when you can try! Download GraphicsGale or a similar program and screw around a bit, seeing what you can make.
As long as you can figure out how to add/duplicate frames, make layers, and use the lasso tool to copy parts of the sprite sheet, you can do about anything.
Kazerad: @Hiyro: I'll put a store on the site eventually, I just haven't had time to make an interface for it yet. If you want to pre-empt everyone, though, you can just paypal me money or something and I'll give you stuff. Just email me about it.
You can buy one of the things I'm giving as prizes and then pretend you won.
TodoDeygulash: Can we use parts of an object? Like say, taking the open chest and removing the lid altogether? Or does that fall too much on the "edit" side?
Kazerad: @TodoDeygulash: I'd say it's fine; as long as you're not breaking it down to individual pixels or something and losing the spirit of the contest.
LazuliLupin: Can we, say, edit the faces using the sprites given? Such as make closed eyes and eyebrows from arms? Or swap ears/fins so (e.g.) Katia is sad, but with ears up?
Obviously, that wouldn't mean giving Quill ears or something silly. I'm just trying for greater emotional range ^_^
rarborman: "Only basic flips, rotates, scales, and crops."
Can I use part of the backgrounds for other things, like say I crop a bush and use it as a sprite part?
TheKitsuneMage: Part of me wants to do this, but the other part is just kinda like "Nah, dude, you'll suck. And winning is the whole point of the contest. So yeah, probably don't want to do it." Overall, that part of me tends to be an ass. Like that friend who convinces you to get drunk and then laughs at you when you do something dumb. Not that that has ever happened to me(I'm not even old enough to drink OTL), but I know that kind of friend exists somewhere. Right?
Still though, I guess I should do it anyway. Just wish that other part of me would just shut up sometimes. >_>
jimmybub: @theKitsuneMage you can use this program I found, called aseprite, there's a fairly updated free version available on dropbox, here's the link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yv8rq13652hi22h/AACP8IwruIRsRCxbGeJ16cTaa?dl=0
for some reason it lets you save, unlike the freemium ware.. I choose not to ask questions about such things.
Trazel_Apeally: Hey @Kazerad, The Forest Background and Lab background are slightly different heights, is it alright if we lengthen them to match the Hell and Door scenes?
Ja_Jarsha_Rovandi: @Trazel_Apeally: Oh, you meant lengthen by drawing new stuff at the edge? Probably not, should just stick to resizing them to avoid the wrath of Kazerad. (Wrath meaning he disqualifies you)
Trazel_Apeally: @Ja_Jarsha_Rovandi: No you were right the first time, I just misinterpreted.
I meant like expanding the bottom part of the forest scene to match the height of the other scenes, since it's all green, Scaling makes sense...
cosmichero: @Ja_Jarsha_Rovandi: So do you guys think this is k bc I just started like 20 minutes ago and I used the cave walls to be like all of the walls...... its gunna be an adventure dungeon crawler :D

wala: With minor modifications that do not alter the essence of the image, I just had to make a loopable version of this background. You know, for
Use at will. Thus ends my contribution to this contest, having found the perfect balance between accomplishing something, and minimal effort output
Kazerad: Heads up: I'm extending the deadline to the 28th because some people have been running into difficulties exporting, and I feel bad for them. I have edited the image accordingly.
PlaceHolder: Could I submit an .swf instead of a .gif for the contest?
I've got 14/~25 seconds animated, and I'm already past the upload cap of 3.5MB. This is with doing fancy camera tricks to reduce the screen size.
AMKitsune: @PlaceHolder: I've just asked Kazerad and his response was "That's not very gif!". If you can find a way of converting the swf into a gif with a limited colour pallet, that might be enough to get the file size down. That and reducing the overall resolution and/or length of the animation.
fate109: @somebody: How would one go about submitting an animation for this here project? Not that i'm done, i just started on the 24, so yeah. But i just wanted to know
AMKitsune: @fate109: Create your animation and save it as an animated gif file (making sure that it's under 3.5 megabytes, as that's the upload size limit for this booru), then upload it using the 'upload' form which can be found near the top right hand corner of the main page of the booru. When uploading it (or afterwards if you forget), be sure to include "Long_gif_Contest" as a tag so that it can be easily grouped with the other submissions.
fate109: Turns out I don't really know how to animate, nor do I know how to use photoshop, in the end I didnt even have my beggining sequence finished when I realised that gifs run at a much slower framerate than movies, and I had over 400 frames :'D, tried using adobe premier to increase framerate which kinda worked, but it would take way to long to finish and photoshop isn't good for animating.
Kazerad: @fate109: The special thing about gifs is that you can define how long each frame lasts! Pauses can last a long time, or quick animations can run fast.
fate109: @Kazerad: Yeah but in photoshop the least amount of time a frame can last is 0 seconds, but the maximum frame rate the gif plays at with that setting is only like 10 fps I think, and I need it to run somewhere between 15-24 or else it looks blocky :/. Maybe i'm just stust stupid though and don't know how to use photoshop, which could likely be the case lol.
AMKitsune: @fate109: Animating gifs in photoshop is a little strange because, as Kazerad said, they can have a variable frame-rate with some frames lasting longer than others if you wish (which can be excellent for keeping the file size down). The downside to this is that you have to define frame durations in seconds (or 'less than seconds' for quick frames). I'm not sure if you're aware, but if you click 'other' when choosing a frame duration, you can choose whatever duration you want. So, if you wanted to have your animation running at 24 frames per second, you'd just need to work out 1 (second) divided by 24 (frames) which gives you 0.0417 as your frame duration. For technical reasons, I'd strongly advise against ever using 0 for a frame duration as many programs will skip over these frames as fast as possible, effectively playing the animation at super speed.
fate109: Yeah, I think when everthing boils down to the bottom of the pot, and its all dried up and really caked on, and you know it's gunu be horrible to clean later, i'm just plain stupid. I uploaded a gif here: http://www.prequeladventure.com/fanartbooru/post/view/3266 apparently this is with "No Delay" or 0 seconds, and for those of you who really care I also uploaded a video here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/y38x4x6x0z3cup3/cut1.3gp which is apparently running at 15 fps, and I just used adobe premiere to achieve this, so yeah there's that. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe my photoshop is messed, which I will probably blame it on anyways cuz it makes me feel better :D. Knew I shouldn't have trusted that piratebay torrent.
itblobboy: @Kazerad: I assume "finish by the 28th of August" means we can upload it at any point during the 28th, but I'm wondering what time zone that's going to be decided by. The exact deadline may be significant to me given my current progress (fairly incomplete!), or probably not but I still want to know :P
... Hope my entry is well received! I haven't animated very much before (never with GraphicsGale) so I'm trying a lot to make it nice. All the learning is fun, but more like the kind of fun you have when you play Dwarf Fortress.
AMKitsune: @itblobboy:Kaz says "the very end of the last day in the last timezone". So as long as it's still the 28th of august somewhere in the world, you're still good to go.

Also, I think your art style might honestly be what subconsciously inspired this contest.

And the only way to move multiple layers is to have them next to each other.. you cannot move layer 1+3, but you can move layer 2+3, or 1+2+3
but it's pretty robust in most other senses, and easy enough to learn. I made a thing for practice:
