DOOMGUY11: Oof, umm yeah. It's kinda my fault to begin with, since I may have started the trend so to everyone I apologize. And yes blame your problems on me
Rick2tails: for the most part people are just concerned about things being off topic. this booru is for Prequel art not oc`s. though my own personal view would be any Kaz art is ok here but I`ve had the mods take down Kaz drawn art if it wasnt prequel
Toryu-Mau: @DOOMGUY11: ... Nah, M8. I encouraged everyone towards the path to begin with, so if there's gonna be finger pointing, I'm wearing the billboard that says "Deposit Criticism Here". >):^/
Kavro: Art is about creativity. Restraining it too much is just an awful detriment and a real damper on creative spirit. I quite like seeing how people weave their own characters into Prequel (though my first comment saying this was unfortunately taken as sarcastic) and hope to see more talented people give their own take on the story of this weird alcoholic fuzzball mage.
PermanentFace: What the Captain said. Kinda rubs me the wrong way you have Katia telling us that your OCs represent the true spirit of Prequel or whatever. Also the way you say you're not a 'true fan' if you care to express disapproval of someone else's fan-art.
Nicros_Man: @PermanentFace: No, not in that way! Ok, maybe the last sentence is a bit to mutch, but what I meant, is that you guys should stop making mean comments on us! SERIOUSLY, ITS ANNOYING! SO STOP IT!
Nicros_Man: @PermanentFace: The reason I did this drawing, is that some comments hurt the feelings of the OC's artists. Like me, I got mean comments (and YOU are one of them) that actually hurt! And I try to stop this nonesence! I mean come on! Your comments are like people who insult the artists who didn't do anything to them! Imagine if this happened to you and you feel like your creation is just a waste of time, but in reality, its not. It hurts! Think about that!
AMKitsune: Oh boy, this is becoming quite the contentious issue.
To the people drawing their own original characters:
The reason that we dissuade people uploading images only containing their original characters and no characters from Prequel itself is that other readers come here to see fan art pertaining to the comic itself. For that reason, people can feel like their time's wasted when they end up looking at pictures that aren't related to what they came for.
I agree that it's great for someone to be able to flex their creative muscles and create their own original characters, settings and stories (and I'm sure Kazerad's glad to see people taking inspiration from his work as well!) but the problem is that to the majority of viewers, these characters and stories have nothing to do with Prequel (outside of a shared Elderscrolls universe and possible stylistic similarities).
To the people annoyed at people posting their original characters here:
In fairness to 'OC artists', the rules around uploading fanart containing only original, prequel inspired characters has been about as clear as mud until recently, so it's hardly these artists fault in that regard.
If you don't like a picture because it contains an artist's own character or self insert, that's fine. You're entitled to your own preferences just as much as anyone else. Just please don't go out of your way to voice your distaste simply because of any included characters and where they came from. These original characters usually mean a great deal more to their creators than they do to a casual onlooker. The fact that they chose to create their own Prequel inspired characters or story is a testament to how much they like the comic. It simply may not come across that way to other people.
The fact of the matter is that different people have different ways of expressing their creativity and contributing to the 'fan community'. Some people make pictures or stories about the main characters everybody loves/hates, some may focus on lesser known side characters, others may unofficially extend the story in different directions with their own characters and narratives (some people even do things that wouldn't even be considered 'art' like hanging around the comments section welcoming new readers to the comic and advising them how to submit commands. The fancy visual archive page that the comic has, completely fan-made as well).
Unfortunately though for the booru, as a site meant to be made available to as many fans as possible, we have to try to tailor the gallery to best suit the interests of the majority of viewers. In this case, that means making sure that every image (or as many as possible) has something that a viewer can easily recognise/understand as being from Prequel to prevent people being disappointed with seemingly 'off-topic' content. I don't for a single second want to imply that fan created characters and narratives are not legitimate fanart, they most certainly are! It's just a case of not being what people expect/want to see when visiting a fanart page.
That's my understanding of the situation at least.
Zargothrax: I knew this was going to happen, and the OC bubble will pop one day.
First and foremost, the affable community of the boruu is something inspiring to many, artists or not, and as such I was distressed by seeing that this pieceful island on the internet turned slowly sour. Being ill-mannered is never adequate, regardless of the context. You can disagree with others and be polite to them simultaneously. If you have a problem with one’s work here, disclose your opinion decently.
On the other hand, while the meanness isn’t acceptable, it isn’t unexplainable, or even unprovoked (note, this is NOT an excuse for being harsh) either. If we ignore why this situation developed, it’s not going to mend itself. In my opinion AMKitsune already said everything that can be said in this regard.
Those who frown upon OC images here can probably be assorted into 2 groups:
2.: Those who are aware of the guidelines but dislike OCs. The reasons may vary, but usually, they would probably come down to them finding the relationship between your OC and the character from prequel cringy. All I can say is that these people should be told that we are talking about a two-legged yellow fictional talking cat, and therefore they shouldn’t feel so protective about her. It sounds harsh, and in part go against what it means to be a „fan”, but in this case this revelation for them might be neccessary.
There is an other side of the coin though.
In my opinion (which might sound extremist, but keep in mind that this isn’t a rule, just something to keep in the back of your head) is that if you upload pictures containing OCs, you subject yourself towards the opinions of those who are uninterested in them. All I mean is one should be able to imagine themselves in the shoes of others. Again, this doesn’t make mean comments acceptable, it’s just that one shouldn’t expect everyone to like their characters being woven into Prequel. I don’t have much against it, but not everyone here is ’me’, that’s the point. Think of it as a form of self-awareness. Do not hold back a drawing, just because you think there will be people who won’t like it, oh no, don’t limit your creativity that way. Just acknowledge and expect somewhere in the back of your head that not everyone’s interested in OCs.
Also, being able to blacklist tags would probably wholly resolve this issue. Maybe I should’ve started with that, but who would’ve read my rambling then?
Zargothrax: By the way, why whould being mean, and liking Prequel be mutually exlusive? It's like the comic would only become enjoyable once you allot at least 45 points into personality? Nah, I'm not going to be evil, I saw this was already asked above
DepecheMode: We need a blacklist for these things and everyone's happy, i swear to amida Buddha we will find peace with the possibility to blacklist tags. Like Zargo said too.
Toryu-Mau: @AMKitsune: ... Oh, thank goodness. The Constables are here. I was starting to fear the situation might escalate into another war. >):'^c
Now we can have some peace and quiet again. >):^]
Toryu-Mau: @Zargothrax: ... Yeah, this is the Ether Web, and that means there's absolute neutrality over moral values like it's the wild west, so it's prudent to consider all possible outcomes before committing to anything to minimize the inevitable clash with those of incompatible beliefs. >):^/
Toryu-Mau: @CaptainLackwit: ... Good point, M8. Putting words in other people's mouth is a terribly rude thing to do... unless you're a psychic, and know exactly what that person would say for a fact. >):^/
AMKitsune: To everyone who's mentioned wanting a blacklist, I've been working on a client side solution for your blacklisting needs. It's not perfect and is still a work in progress, but if anyone wants to try it out sooner rather than later, you should be able to edit your blacklists from my test page (in the black bordered section near the bottom). If 'how to use it' is in any way unclear, PM me about it and I'll try to factor that into the final release. Of course, it'll eventually move to a more appropriate location, so it won't be on my test page forever.

Black listing tags is probably already in the source code, I used to have the source code for the booru a while back when I fixed the /comment/list.

@ThatGuyWithAKhajiitWaifu: Nope. I had a look and there was no sign of any kind of 'tag blacklisting feature'. Quite surprising actually.
