Chapter Three: Unit K47
February 23rd, 2027, 5:52 a.m.
Subject Room 23, K47 Training Facility, Atlantic Ocean
Katia woke up in ankle deep water, inside a cylindrical suspension unit, the water draining, her eyes extremely bleary from not opening them for a week. She blinked repeatedly until most of her vision was restored, the plasma cover dicapating above her, she sat up in the chamber. She was in a large metal room, she stepped out of the suspension unit, the hard floor cold on her paws, the air cold on her wet fur. She realized she wasn’t wearing anything, then accidentally stepped onto a pressure plate. It startled her, but out of the walls came warm air all around her, she was made dry in seconds. All of her previous injuries were completely healed, even the bullet wound in her leg didn’t have a scar, what was this new technology, and was it even new at all? Katia observed the room again, where was the way out? She obviously needed some clothes as well. She stepped forward again, this time expecting the pressure plate, this time large electronic arms came out of the walls, they came up to her and one of them did a body scan. On the wall a plasma screen appeared, showing Katia’s information:
Name: Managan, Katia F.
Sex: Female
Birth Date: 2003
Weight: 192
Height: 5’ 4”
Race: Khajiit
…
There was a lot of other information listed, but what was really interesting was that the second arm seemed to be making clothes for her out of thin air. It held out to her undergarments, a black tank-top, combat pants, and steel toed boots, all in her size. Katia dressed and went over to the plasma version of herself, there was a verification panel, she pressed her hand against it, “Access granted,” a voice said. Immediately a piece of the wall opened as a door to the next room, she put her hand over her eyes as they adjusted to the blinding light.
Katia stepped into the pure white corridor, many other people with many races were all walking in the same direction, she decided to join in the line. There were windows on the left side of the hallway, outside was pitch black, were they in space, or underground maybe? Down the corridor a giant door opened, revealing a pure white room that looked like it stretched for miles. A tall african american man stood there, he had army green camo pants and shirt, and black steel toed boots, he had many medals pinned on his shirt from past operations. “Ladies and gentlemen,” his voice was gruff and formal, “welcome to K47 Training Facility, Training Unit 833, I am Sargeant Foles and you will answer to me. You will wake up, arrive in this room every morning at 6:00 a.m. sharp, we will have roll call, then training will begin.” He observed the group slowly and carefully, as if already knowing who would make it past the first day and who would not, “Today there are twenty-five of you, in five weeks, five will remain. Today we won’t be testing you in any way, the first testing week begins March first. Right now we will be… getting to know each other,” he said those words as if they left a nasty taste in his mouth.
He began roll call, shouting out the last names of Katia’s fellow agents in training, “Brown!” The man with the name Carson Brown immediately responded “Sir!” He was a tall and muscular man with a crew cut, there were others called on, but not worth mentioning, at least not yet. There were four elves, one argonian, two khajiits including herself, and the rest were humans. Finally Sgt. Foles shouted, “Managan!” Katia straitened, “Sir!” she shouted, and he continued until all of them were called on.
“Now,” Sgt. Foles said, “we will begin training on March 1st, until then you will live here in your dorms, are there any questions?” Katia shifted in place, “Um.. Sir?” Sgt. Foles turned “Yes Miss Managan?” “Why am I here?” she said unsure, “I was sent here and I want to know why, what happens when, sorry, if we complete our training?” Sgt. Foles stared at her, lookin her over again, “Miss Managan, I have already been informed of your situation,” he said plainly, “but you are very obviously here to train. But, you and I have a meeting later on to discuss these matters with General Harris in a few days.” Some of the trainees started whispering and glancing over at Katia, which was kind of uncomfortable. Sgt. Foles shifted to address the whole group, “Listen up! You will go back to your cells, there will be a schedule of the entire day listed for you. You will arrive at all events on time no exceptions, Miss Managan and I will be discussing our meeting.”
They walked down the hall toward Sgt. Foles' office, they entered through the door the same way Katia exited her cell, and they sat at a small table. “Now,” he began, “Miss Managan, the government has sent you to K47 because you were present during the terrorist attack, this is correct is it not?” Katia looked across the table, trying not to think about Quill too much, “Yes, Sir” “Well,” he said, “the Agency thinks you know some things about Quill Weave, and why she was attacked. They think you have the best shot at finding some answers, I think so too. But first we need to know everything that happened, the meeting with General Harris is in two days, I’ll see you then. You are dismissed”
