AMKitsune: After many a night spent in nothing but her 'underpaint', Katia declared never to be caught out in the open without clothes again. But with only one set of clothes at hand, which will be end up greater? Her new sense of resolve, or her internal body temperature?

D_C_N: Welp, I've seen enough of the phantom menace to know that someone slapsticking their way into accidentally defeating an army isn't very entertaining, lol, may just avoid it entirely then.

Although, it may be mildly entertaining if she tripped and knocked the antagonist over a cliff or something... the possibilities. ;)

AMKitsune: @D_C_N: Yes. I'd imagine so at least. I think part of the reason that everyone finds Katia so relatable is that she essentially acts like any other 'normal' person would in her situation. She's not a brave adventurer willing to wipe out hoards of bandits for a chest of loot at the end of a cave or take on a giant frost troll. She essentially has the mind of a regular person thrust into an irregular situation (a regular person with alcohol problems, fireballs and telekinesis, but regular none the less). If she 'were' to kill someone, either accidentally or reluctantly on purpose, I'm imagine that she'd feel absolutely distraught afterwards. To the point of emotionally breaking down if I had to guess. The only reason I think she faired as she did with the big Imp was because she was forced into the situation beyond her will and it was a 'monster', not a 'person'. Of course you could always go down the 'killing someone' route, but I'd have to wish you the best of luck in writing it in both a believable way and a way in which your readers would feel comfy continuing with.

Saying all this, maybe Kazerad will have her kill someone at some point (on purpose) and not be too effected by it. I wouldn't imagine so though...

Geravind: It was completely hard to read: some typos, some unmemorable names, hordes of rare words (this one's vocabulary is on fire), nonstandard dialogues, not clearly logical decisions. It should be more... clear to comprehend for reader.
Katia still acts like a ballast, but it looked like she's an important person to be worth of saving at the beginning.

It's completely okay, if she kills an enemy, but a kind soul -like hers- is capable of doing it only with real hatred on board.

It would be nice, if author put a few (<1%) deeply professional details here and there. For example: how to cross a river in the best possible way or how to change formation, when facing a single enemy or a group of enemies (of course, such hints should come from someone completely professional, not from some clueless cat)... It's usually hard for an author to figure out such details, but a sophisticated reader greatly appreciates it. And it's cool, when character's decisions are copletely logical (accordingly to condition, temper, etc.) and their behavior is most natural.
- Reply
D_C_N: Thanks for the feedback and the answers, of my flaws, that I was actually aware of is my poor dialogue.

And for the next story, I think I have a decent Idea of how to proceed. (I'll be sure to include more details regarding the features of, well, battle, in the next story)
- Reply
D_C_N: I lied. I have no idea how to proceed. I think this segment may be the last. I think I just neednto practice more before I post anything else. So, I'm afraid my little story may have to end here.

- Reply
Armored-Struggle-Wagon: @D_C_N: do not worry, as people will gladly make a fanfic about your fanfic, someday. :p
- Reply
D_C_N: I know, er, well, that, hopefully is the plan. That I can pull Katia back out of this world and publish it with only my own characters. But the problem I seem to have is balance, if not enough happens, it will be boring. If too much happens it will be clutered. And if it has fast parts and slow parts it would probably be far to long.

Seeing as I am posting this to the prequel fanart site, I don't really feel that I could justifiably expect anyone here to read a 20 page story, where most of the content are things that they aren't really interested in.

Thanks for the encouragement though.

Nyflex: I really wonder which plot is behind of this pic!

- Reply
Tahrey: I really like the picture but I'm not sure what's going on in it :D

- Reply
Strawberry-Jamasaur: @Nyflex: @Tahrey: It takes the context of the final Thieves Guild mission in Oblivion, "The Ultimate Heist", in which you break into the Imperial Palace and steal an elder scroll from the blind moth priests. The thing I love about this particular mission and why I thought it would be a good submission to the contest is because a lot of the previous TG quests are preparing you for this mission, so it feels good when you see all your hard thieving work pay off, and plus I thought it would give a lot of implied context to the image, though it took me all of an hour after posting it to realize how stupid that reasoning was

- Reply
AMKitsune: It's the smallest of nit-picks, but shouldn't she have used the arrow of extrication by this point? Either way, absolutely adorable. If those Moth priests weren't blind, I'm sure they'd just give her the scroll if she asked nicely :3

- Reply
Ja_Jarsha_Rovandi: @AMKitsune: I think you can recover that arrow though?

- Reply
Strawberry-Jamasaur: @AMKitsune: @Ja_Jarsha_Rovandi: Ja is correct in that, if you can find the arrow, it can be recovered, with the drawback that you would then be unable to remove it from your inventory. HOWEVER, this was never going to be game-lore accurate because I wanted the equipment to add the context associated. The original plan for this drawing was that Katia was in the Hall of Epochs, drawing the arrow in the bow, but in that plan she already had the scroll and was being chased by guards. I felt that would be too similar to my other contest entry(also I failed to sufficiently draw it, like, 5times), so I went with this, which is a better choice for the contest in my opinion. So you're right, but I already know. In fact there are a few points I've been expecting to get nitpicked, like the fact that the elder scroll she's being given is modeled after the one from Skyrim, not Oblivion

- Reply
Strawberry-Jamasaur: OH MAN, You know what would be hilarious? If reading an elder scroll, which usually makes you go blind, counteracts the blindness effect of the cloak of gray tomorrows. I know it makes no sense, but elder scrolls are strange things that don't follow the normal rules of time and space. Do you think elder scrolls come in nightwriting?

- Reply
Tahrey: How would you rea--- oh, right, I "see".

Anyway, I assume the pic refers to someone handing her the scroll in trust to "just have a look at", then the other picture is the follow-up where she and her accomplice(s) are running like hell with no intention of actually giving it back?

- Reply
Strawberry-Jamasaur: @Tahrey: No, the two picrures are unrelated. And as I mentioned before, the moth priests are blind. In the mission a meeting is set up for a famous scholar to read an elder scroll. You go and take the scroll instead. Though I do like that idea.

- Reply
Tahrey: ah, it's just because there seems to be that same blue glow in both pics, I figured it was from the scroll in this one being stuffed into her bag in the other :D

Tahrey: This would have been up earlier but i couldn't get the stupid photos to transfer from my phone to computer then Internet. Managed to get this one of of it directly at least. Source will be updated once I've got the other shots uploaded to Imgur.

Anyway, it's still December 9th in Australia, and possibly Hawai'i. Or something. It's not the 10th everywhere in the world yet, is what i mean, and it was still the 9th in the US when I made the damn things.

Also I've been away on family visits in foreign climes, not had much Internet, and seem to have picked up some horrible disease whilst there which has lead to me sleeping about 13 hours of the day and feeling a bit unable to do anything besides drag myself to work and back, so go easy :/ ...i was going to draw a Laputa-inspired compact-story mural on the stripped wall in my bathroom, for future residents to discover after themselves stripping away whatever gets pasted on top of it, but simply didn't have the energy to achieve anything more than a daft smiley face.

Dunno if they're even edible yet, made them from a forgotten bake-your-own-Disney-princess-cookies pack I picked up on clearance because it was cheaper and easier than making cookie dough from scratch. I assume it keeps for a few weeks at least whilst sealed. We'll soon find out, as I made a baker's dozen, kept one side for my dear sweet mother, and have brought the rest into work to share. Maybe they'll be nice. Maybe disgusting. Maybe deadly. Who knows!? It's going to be a culinary adventure.

Please note the glace cherries acting as authentically coloured and shaped eyes, the subtle headfins, and how you could also pretend they were either khajiits who have overused their eye of fear abilities, pac man's evil mutant cousins, or happy fun juice grapes that have gone decidedly mouldy. Also the complete lack of ricepaper and food-dye Princess stickers, or awful cheap icing paste, for full authenticity.

Also, above average mead. Sadly I have neither the outfit nor photographic equipment / accomplices to play dressup and get a photo of myself holding the tray and bottle...

- Reply
Tahrey: The Mead is actually above average too. I tried it before purchase, its quite nice.

Second attempt at trying to upload, after it popped up the stupid "uploading is quicker and easier with the app" thingy, it actually went through, made an album, but didn't offer me the expected ability to edit the titles and captions. Whilst trying to find whether there was an option to do that, somehow it sent me back, popped up that same stupid screen again, and when I cancelled that away, I was back at the upload prompt ... and couldn't go "forwards" to the album again. Maybe the URL will be in my history. IDK yet. Hopefully.

Yes, uploading must be quicker and easier in the app, because it presumably won't have STUPID ADVERTS FOR THE APP POPPING UP AND GETTING IN THE WAY

- Reply
Tahrey: ...ok, found it. No edit options even with the desktop version any more (which I'm sure you're supposed to get even if not logged in, so long as you're on the same IP...), but screw it, it'll do. I'll just caption it here instead.

Link: http://imgur.com/a/I7Rmy

They are at least at a more sensibly viewable size on there, but for some reason have been presented in reverse order vs how I told it to upload them. I have no idea why, I can only assume that it's been programmed to be as retarded and backwards as humanly possible. Soooo, from the *bottom upwards*:

1. After flouring the cutting board and rolling pin, extracting the now somewhat crumbly dough, wetting and working it a little, then rolling out (something of a messy and frustrating affair as the dough was in a strange state of crumbling yet being sticky at the same time), cutting the shapes with the least appropriate thing ever (a cheap champagne flute as it's the only item I had, including actual cookie cutters, that was remotely the right size) and a knife for the mouths, using the scraps to make headfins and cutting up/applying the cherries, we have the assembled cookies ready for ovening. Interlaced like so to try and preclude the odd mutant expansion suffered by others that messed up the mouth shapes. At this point I was still considering whether or not to do *something* with the strangely low-diversity princess stickers (don't Disney have at *least* 12 of them by now?). Think I'll make some fairy cakes and stick them on there instead. Also, this was basically the sum total working space as the whole kitchen is in a bit of a state right now. And yeah it was pretty dark.

2. Closeup on the argonookies. This should have been landscape. I don't know what happened. Witness their continued crumbliness.

3. Checking them when the shorter of the prescribed times was up. Look almost done, so leaving to rest in a hot but open/turned off oven. Also, discovering that my oven light has burned out.

4. Happily the phone flash still works.

5. I had originally intended to have a shower whilst they were being ovened (can't really call this "baking" :p), but instead ended up doing this as it took a surprisingly long time to print a three-word label and stick it onto a bottle of white wine. Still showered afterwards, don't worry. I'm clean. Today. The white thing on the coffee jar is the icing that came with the dough, I've not been applying thermal paste to CPUs in my kitchen. This year.

6. Fully ovened! And lined up on a tray. I was going to have them just resting on the bare tray, as that's more authentically full-authenticity authentic, but the pattern proved to clash rather badly and made the cookies themselves hard to see. Bit weird, but there you go. Had to be the gingham tea-towel instead. 13th one has been exiled to the sticker area because it is bad luck and must be ritually shunned by all the other cookies in order to restore balance to the force. After this it was secured in the regular biscuit barrel so that it could be properly contained and protected. Quite pleased with how they all came out, but the final proof will be in the eating.

7. Had further trouble figuring out how to properly present them. Eventually the hallway leading to the kitchen proved best, with the divider curtain suitably taped up to form a drapery background. Bit dull though.

8. Flash on. There's better. Bottle's all nice and glowy. Though the bickies now look darker, so the best combination would probably be to copy and paste the glowing bottle into the no-flash picture instead.

There. Done. We will speak of it no more, except to reply to any further thirdparty comments and/or update on their deliciousness/poisonousness. Ss.

Tahrey: ah balls. so only now do i see that the winners were already announced.

damn you, Kaz

;)

Never mind that it seems I completely missed the whole idea of it and made probably the *LEAST* creative cookies that I possibly could have, being straight copies of those in the comic itself. Plain round ones with the princess stickers on would have probably scored higher.

Still, Dan is a very worthy winner, not least for how much his entry made me cringe with revulsion, something which is surely 100% in the Prequel spirit.

The pictures were good too I guess.

11 in there, and i tried one myself. Not the most amazing flavour in the world, but perfectly alright. ISO Biscuit, really. Somewhat crunchy though, more biscuit than cookie, guess I should have erred on the shorter side of the cooking time given my oven is often a bit over eager. Didn't burn them at least.
