Tahrey: But where's the other one? Is it in that daedric lord's kitchen again?

Or is it that the story is suddenly going to end with adolescent Katia waking up in her bed and it's all been a series of weird, nested dreams? But ones that inspire her to visit the local mage's guild and look up her birth sign, and then after she's earned a little money as a beginner mage, employing a shrink to analyse the recurrent nightmares and wean her off the booze?

Tahrey: It's called a "Power Window". All the strongest adventuresses have one. It allows you to leverage the magical abilities contained in one's decolletage, or more precisely the region just below it. +5 to STL and EVD, and against all attacks both physical and magical, though only when fighting either gynaephilic or uncontrollably bitchy opponents.

Whatever you do, don't go trying to find someone to fill in the hole for you.

Tahrey: For some reason I can't help thinking someone's tickling her :D

- Reply
Tahrey: Oh, the hands and feet are perfectly fine, btw, I wouldn't fret over that. Maybe it's only because of how you worried about it, but I'd say you're nowhere near as bad at them as you think.

Tahrey: I'm trying to work out how you're working the palette choices here. Are those supposed to be 7-colour-plus-transparent tiles (3-bit, weird...), or a mix of 3+trans and 4 w/o trans because the character is actually large enough to be able to do that in places?

Also quite fine graduations, even for Genesis (let alone 8-bit), so presumably going for a Neo Geo, PC Engine or SNES flavour?

Technical curiousness aside, that's a cool Gaius - is he going to basically copy Rock's movements, just 4x taller and 2.5x wider? :D

Tahrey: Heh, I was just thinking the same thing :D

Tahrey: Keep on doodlin', KK. It's going well.

Tahrey: I guess Katia really wasn't expecting him to Gro-Upp quite so fast... uehehehehe...

Tahrey: The hips are a bit weird (seem too low and pull in rather sharply, like there's a really tight corset under the raiment), and there's too many fingers (why does everyone insist on turning her into some kind of hideous polydactylic mutant?!), but otherwise this is awesome ^_^

Tahrey: One morning, when Katia Managan woke from troubled dreams, she found herself transformed (in someone else's bed) into a pile of Bad News.

Tahrey: Also I like the arts but I'm not sure about the idea...

Tahrey: I thought it was a legendary sword that John Romero wanted you to get your ass kicked whilst hunting for?

Tahrey: Lol ... I just assumed her right leg was positioned just-so behind the left so we couldn't see it. Like, typical hanging-from-a-pole pose, often the legs are locked fairly tightly together.

Also, anatomy and colour look pretty good to me. Maybe a lack of shading but that's authentic to the style at least. Acid test is that it still looks fine when turned 180 degrees...

Tahrey: @Cryptid10: I was more expressing surprise at schools having these already, I thought it'd take a few more years at least.

@TemporaryFace: I can't deal, it's so unfair. Also it's moving so fast...

Mainly though I'm just bitter that I work at something that dares to call itself a university but it doesn't have a 3DP in the art/design/technology department yet. They're still messing around with paper straws and cardboard discs, and the odd USB-to-serial-to-GPIO interface box that's the size of a DVD player.

Maybe I should recommend they get one ... and a CNC machine ... and a laser cutter :D

Tahrey: Just goes to show how much effort needs to go into pixeling sometimes, btw...

- Reply
Tahrey: I'm trying my damnedest and I can't see any flaws in this. At least, not any that can be fixed within the limits of low-colour / binary alpha pixel spriting (and those which are artefacts of that have been minimised).

Excellent work!

Especially if there's a Gene Catlow cameo partway through.

Tahrey: BUT WHY IS SHE WEARING A SHIP ON HER HEAD AND NOTHING ON HER GROINAL AREA

- Reply
Tahrey: Hmm, regardless of Wikipedia's rather contrived story about its contested origins, it sounds awfully like the stuff you spread on toast to make Welsh Rarebit to me.

Which is, yknow... a good thing all round. Separating it out into a pre-melted/thinned-out dip and chunks of bready goodness of your choice is an interesting take on it. Like a cold, malty fondue.

Tahrey: Intriguing. I must research this further.

Tahrey: Wait ... my ships are... awful?! You're saying I made bad ships? Me? The great and lovable Tahrey?

How can you say such things? I don't understand... I thought we were finally friends like you waaaanteeed...

Hmph. Whatever. My ships are awesome and perfect. Just because YOU can't understand their magnificence, that doesn't make them wrong ... stop repressing me with your author-privilege you... you entitled CLLLAAAAA-OD!

Tahrey: OK, well, if it disappears, I'll just rehost it. No probs.

Also, no, I didn't draw diddly, except that which was needed to tidy things up. I just saw someone else's edit of the same chart somewhere which included a Forever Alone in Quill's spot, and there was that other pic which had a load of MSPainted ships all in one place (which is where I wanted to insert this anyway), and it just fit together so beautifully I was literally powerless to stop it happening.

Also if you follow it along it suggests there might be some remote chance for a series of awful slashfics involving Stephane and S'thengir.

Tahrey: hmm, vectory...

Tahrey: bluedraggy: the cream and green lump of material at the far left of the picture is the half-finished model of Katia seen in the immediately previous upload.

Tahrey: If you're wondering about the mayo pic, it just came up whilst I was searching for the one I actually wanted. As did two of the other three. I'll leave you to guess which that was.

Tahrey: ...shit, I didn't get rid of that bit of white overspill next to QW's head. Stupid MSPaint brushes that change their outcome after you let go of the mouse button...

Tahrey: Also, I discovered the REAL chart...
Spoiler: ALIENS DID IT.

(...I'm quite surprised how well this came out given that it was hashed together in MS Paint with just some very basic cleaning-up...)

Tahrey: The problem is that large computer screen pixel sizes don't automatically translate to large, detailed prints. Or indeed to still looking large and clear on the 4K screens that even some tablets and laptops now sport, in fact... (this would still run off the bottom of one in landscape mode, but not fill to the horizontal borders...)

The minimum that you should really aim for in print is about 180dpi (which also tends to be the breakpoint between 9 and 24 pin dot matrix printers, which is why you could never really get satisfactory output from the former). Certainly below 150 it gets noticeably blocky or blurry (especially in that rather obvious blurred-pixel way) when you get up close to it. On the other hand there's little point going much beyond 300-360, but it's always possible to downscale and drop some detail that no-one will see anyway; upscaling is much more of a problem.

However, 3000 pixels at 180dpi is still 16.7 inches (42cm) on a side, or squared-off A2 size, and the largest home/small office printers tend to top out at about 11 inches width and maybe 17 inches length capacity (for A3 printing, and whatever the equivalent US upsize from Letter/Legal is), so you could likely get away with cropping this a little and printing it within those borders. Maybe at 200dpi instead, for 15x15 equivalent full size, and less cropping to fit on the page.

Tahrey: It's alright, I've seen worse published in newspapers :D

Though, surely there are enough people here that someone may get bored and decide to show off their flash skills...

(last time I did any computer animation, other than using a morphing program, it was probably on the Atari ST using Cyberpaint...)

- Reply
Tahrey: well yeah, I know, and there's probably advertising billboards with clothed models that actually "show" more, but if it's been given a "questionable" tag then that suggests it might not be suitable for universal viewing ;)

Tahrey: There's a number of things broken with the board at the moment tbh, I think something may have got corrupted in the code. For example, go to the "dramatic descriptions" link and try to look any further back than the first page...

Tahrey: still feels like there's a skip, right at the point where her head is / should be turned all the way to the left... maybe it's just me. IDK. If I cover up her head with my finger the rest of it looks perfect. If I cover up the body, the skipping is somewhat reduced at least, even if not totally eradicated.

Tahrey: Some people like that sort of thing though. I don't know why, but they do. Different strokes.

Right now Katia is definitely in the sister zone than the romantic prospect one as far as I'm concerned. She needs help, support and solace, not seduction. Even thinking of going down that road seems a little creepy and a bit like grooming... ;)

Really, this is a comic full of all kinds of broken people. Which is what makes it real.

Tahrey: (Case in point, some cough medicine I took at the weekend had a warning on it that a standard dose - two teaspoons - contained something like 0.3ml of alcohol, "equivalent to 5ml of beer or 2ml of wine", and that it may therefore "be harmful for alcoholics".

Yes, the equivalent of a single teaspoon of beer. Taking a regular dose of this much-diluted tincture, about a third of a shot, and itself half the strength of a typical ale, would still be enough to potentially cause harm, either to their liver or psychologically by triggering the parts of their brain that were addictively habituated to ethanol.
