AMKitsune: This is too perfect! Is it truly racism when it's against your own race and not on purpose? Questions for the ages mages.
Just a little technical tip, saving an image with solid colours and crisp, aliased line art like this as a JPG can cause a noticeable degradation in quality in the form of compression artefacts near the borders where different colours meet. It's not too bad at all in this image, but can often give images like this a 'dirty' look. Saving your images as BMP's or better yet, PNG's would stop that from happening and keep all the colours and lines as pure as they were when you were working on them.
AMKitsune: @VeeGilante: While you can directly upload SVG files, in all honesty, you're probably better off uploading them as you have been. For a start, not all devices and browsers can view SVG's (as far as I'm aware) and the booru can't convert SVG's into thumbnails so has to use a generic thumbnail that says "I literally cannot spare ten seconds to convert my vector art to a more compatible format". If you feel that rasterising your images would take something away from them, you can by all means upload the SVG's. You'll just get a few less viewers and no custom thumbnail.
AMKitsune: @VeeGilante: Firstly, Awesome work yet again. I'm not that familiar with the Scott Pilgrim series, but that expression does seem to resemble some of the series' artwork.
Secondly, you have no idea how happy it makes me to see someone getting some use out of that program and I'm glad to see that it (for the most part) served you well. Unfortunately, while this image 'looks' like it should have the SVG tag, it's formatted as a PNG so doesn't warrant using the tag. I blame myself for not making my program's 'SVG tag' question not clear enough. Hopefully once revised, it'll be clear enough that people don't need to make this mistake again.
AMKitsune: I just need to point out that this was almost certainly based on a previously posted image by the artist SoapMonster. There's no problem with uploading redraws or images inspired by the work of others here, just be sure to try to credit the original artist by either mentioning them in a comment, crediting them as an artist in the tags (if your work is close enough to theirs to be considered a redraw) or preferably by providing a link to the original image in a comment or as the 'source'.
AMKitsune: This, right here is weapons grade cuteness.
Plus, the lighting's really nice.
Her neck's a tad on the 'giraffe side', but that's how it often appears in the comic so I suppose that makes it more accurate? Whatever the case, fantastic work and I hope we'll be seeing more from you in the future.
AMKitsune: @mukyuuhikuu: Skyrim with jiggle physics? What nonsense is...
Wait, what? Huh... Right... Ok...
Apparently modded Skyrim can in fact have jiggle physics. Your dreams of a happy bouncing cat may yet be realised.
AMKitsune: Hang on a second, there are two different designs to choose from? It's probably just my sieve like memory doing it's thing, but I can't remember ever having to choose a design. I only ever though there were blue backed cards. In that case then, when my package arrives, not only will it be full of goodies, but possibly an interesting surprise to!
AMKitsune: @Grape: Too late Grape. You snooze, you loose.
@POMA: Adding a Housepets styled face to this already impressive line-up would just make it that much more awesome. I hope it's something we can all look forward to!
AMKitsune: @katiaaitak: It most certainly is! Not only is the overall structure generally better than your earlier works but the colour is understandably cleaner to. The lines are a tad sketchy, but that's perfectly understandable seeing as long, curved lines are usually a challenge (if not borderline impossible) for most people without some kind of brush stabiliser, graphics tablet or 'curved line tool'. On that note, what program are you using to draw with at the moment?
Also, don't forget that when uploading your artwork, you should ideally tag yourself as the artist. For this image, it looks like Mr A.S.Wagon has already gone ahead and tagged you. To tag yourself as an artist, just add "artist:KatiaaitaK" (without the quotation marks) to the tags. That's all there is to it!
Finally, just a little extra thing to bare in mind. Katia's eyes are a light, slightly limy yellow colour. It's a slight oversight that many artists make, but if you can remember to get them coloured right, it helps make the picture that much more accurate (I find that it helps to have a panel or two from the comic open when adding colour to something so I can use whatever program I'm using's colour picker tool to get the perfect colours).
Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing where this new 'digital path' takes you :D.
AMKitsune: I get what's going on here, but I'm just going to pretend that she doesn't realise that the box has fallen open and that she's instead just shocked, surprised and generally overwhelmed that someone gave her a box of 'love chocolates'.
Everything has a happy alternate meaning in my little head-canon world :D
AMKitsune: @Tahrey: Amazingly enough, no matter how hard I try, I can't see it! I get the whole 'Diglet nose/mouth illusion' and how it would apply here, but I just can't see it!
I should probably consider myself lucky in that regard XD.
AMKitsune: If that was the case, it certainly wasn't clear to those not in the know. While many of the images were presumably tagged for the reasons you say they were, many weren't. Having more varied tags is great for a having better organised booru, but when tags have such a similar meaning that people un-knowingly use the two interchangeably (or only ever use one), then it's time to simplify things and make the system more 'new user' friendly.
AMKitsune: @woundedkneecap: I certainly can! It was because the two tags were, for the most part, being used for the same kinds of image (anything that could be considered a modification/recreation of another image). Functionally, the two tag 'galleries' had no distinguishing features so it was decided that it would be better to merge the tags into one so that when someone now searches for an edit (or 'knock off' as the booru has come to calling them), instead of only getting half of the results that they want, they'll get all the images that should fit their search criteria. I understand how there may have been a subtle difference between 'edit' and 'knock off' in the beginning, but over time, that distinction became more and more blurred until there was none left.
AMKitsune: @POMA: Oh come on, everyone has to start somewhere, and what do people having lengthy things to say have to do with this image?
@katiaaitak: Posting artwork online can be something of a double edged sword at times. There will be people who'll praise you for your efforts and there'll be those who may not like your artwork as much and be vocal about it. You can't the negative comments colour your experiences. Keep going and in time, you'll find yourself looking back at your older artwork and marvelling at how far you've progressed. Also, my sister wants me to tell you that she really likes this picture :).
AMKitsune: As struggle-wagon said, really nice outfit design.
Admittedly, I'm a little confused by the swapping of her lacrimal caruncle and eyelashes, but that's a minor issue at most.
Fantastic work!
@Unidentified_BA: Don't forget to tag it as such in the future then.
@Kazerad: Please don't fight amongst yourselves. How about this image stays featured for a week and the other image (whatever it was) gets featured for a week afterwards? Everybody'll be happy and no one'll have to cry!
@Tahrey: We try (when we remember) to tag all featured images with the 'featured_masterpiece' tag. Clicking it should show you all the other images that have been featured in the past.
AMKitsune: @Gren: Feel free to inform you sister that her artwork is fantastic and would probably work brilliantly as a t-shirt design. The only thing that stands out to me is the spelling of 'whorst'. Unless it was spelled differently in the comic, I'm pretty sure it's spelled 'worst'. That aside, fantastic design.
AMKitsune: I'm just going to go ahead and add Kazerad as an artist here, seeing as he drew the original version of the 'shruggy Katia sprite'.
It's amazing to imagine how many individual sprite frames you're going to have by the end of this.
AMKitsune: @Man_Of_Mer: It most certainly can! Gifs are generally compatable with more devices, so if you've got a small looping animation, the gif format may be better for some people. For anything else though, Flash away!
AMKitsune: Glancing at the thumbnail, I thought that there was a giant Katia face staring through the window. Upon closer inspection, that's clearly a building XD
Simply adorable stuff. Keep it up :D
AMKitsune: And that, my friends, is why Khajiit can see so well in the dark.
Nothing to do with mystical beings or racial inheritance. It's all thanks to a diet rich in vitamin A.
You too, can be like your favourite Khajiit by simply eating your vegetables (and drinking too much)!
AMKitsune: @Armored-Struggle-Wagon: I'll tell you what would be amazing (and absolutely adorable) if you could accurately pull it off, and that would be a "Lil' Katia" model. Could you imagine how cute that would be? I'm starting to make overly cutesy noises just thinking about it X).
AMKitsune: That glass must just be for show. There's no way she could have been drinking any kind of booze and kept that 'I'm evil and serious about it' look.
Katia does not make for a dignified drunk.
Either that or she just hasn't had any yet XD
AMKitsune: I love how you drew Katia here. Sufficiently 'noodle limbed' enough to be on model with her original design yet detailed and expressive enough to stand out as belonging to your style.
... The sketch portion of the picture isn't bad either XD
AMKitsune: Sammich: The ultimate cure for underweight/emaciated characters.
I love the way that you've, well, pretty much done everything here!
Her pose, expression, background and how you've generally laid out and framed the image.
Fantastic work :D
AMKitsune: That scooter looks like it could use a spot of WD-40 on the wheels, judging by how hard she's having to push. I wonder if they even have spray-able cans of oil in Tamriel?
AMKitsune: @FistHombre: If you draw for your own pleasure, you might very well be better off drawing what you want, when you want and making slow progress than 'forcing' yourself to develop and turning the whole process into a chore. I can't speak about what's important for professional artists, but as a hobbyist, your enjoyment of the process is the most important thing. Not only because your happiness is the most important result of your art, but also because the happier the whole process makes you feel, the more inclined you'll be to do it again and again. Practice makes perfect and practice is so much easier when it's something you enjoy doing.
Again, other people will have different views on the matter and these views all have some degree of value and validity to them.
Basically, just go about it however feels the best to you, and try not to let your expectations of how your preconception of a 'real artist' would do things steer you into uncomfortable territory.
It's true that learning by 'traditional means' is a valid route to 'good' art, but it's by no means the only one.
AMKitsune: I can't get over how adorable she is in this picture. It's probably because of her proportions here, but I keep thinking that she looks like a 'Micro Katia' that could live in your breast pocket and that you could take with you on your travels.
AMKitsune: Water colour pencils? Does that mean we might be seeing some colour at some point in the future? I certainly hope so :D
Also, I had one of those ink brush/pen things once (I still do, but god only knows where it ended up), fantastically fun things to work with. Take good care of it and it should serve you well.
AMKitsune: @Strawberry-Jamasaur: Honestly, with your pre-existing artistic ability, learning how to use whatever program(s) you end up choosing can only serve to make your pictures cleaner, sharper and maybe even more colourful? (if you decide to go down that route)
A lot of learning about these sorts of programs can be found on places like youtube. If you ever want anything specific explaining though, feel free to ask. I may not be quite as talented an artist as the rest of you, but I'm not too shabby at finding my way around an image editor and knowing what most of the buttons do XD.
It might be a bit jarring to begin with considering the different feels of traditional mediums compared to digital, but learning your way around an 'art program' would defiantly be a skill worth developing. If nothing else, you'd be able to digitally touch-up your scanned/photographed traditional work.
AMKitsune: @FistHombre: The fact that you're planning on keeping drawing already means that your on the path to success! With every new picture comes improvement, even if it's at a rate that you can't see it. As far as critique goes, anatomically speaking, you'll want to pay extra close attention to a characters shoulders, hips and overall proportions. I say this because humans are very good at recognising other humanoid forms (as we grow up with them all around us and see them on a near daily basis), but that also means we're very good at noticing when there's something not 'quite right' with one (proportion wise). A bit like when playing with the face settings in any modern game's character creator, there's very little middle ground between what looks 'acceptably human' and what looks strangely 'off'. Especially with things suck as eye distance and torso length when compared to other limbs.
When drawing humanoid characters, it might be worth having a google image search page full of pictures of people open to help you get a better idea of how different poses should look.
Of course, for cartoony characters like this, you've got far more artistic license to play around with the proportions.
Basically, don't worry too much about your drawings not looking as 'good' as other more experienced artists. Most of the 'better' character pictures out there have quite accurate anatomy and with time and practice, that's something that'll become more and more intuitive to you.
Again though, in your picture here, you've done a good job. Just have a look at some pictures of characters from another artist who's work you like and see how they form things like shoulders and hips. The more you see and actively pay attention to these body parts, the easier you should find drawing them.
@Arcsome: The phrase "Juice box" sounds more adorable to me than it probably should (we tend to just call them cartons over here). That combined with the mental image of an adorable Sleeps-Darkly holding a little carton of apple juice or something similar made me squee more than I probably should have XD
AMKitsune: Once again, your shading is spot on. The subtle differences really help define her musculature, the flow of her dress and the scene in general.
One thing that stands out to however is that her legs seems a little on the 'big' side. Not that they're overly thick or long, just proportionally larger than should normally belong to a body her size (in this picture). It may just be that it's late and I my sense of scale could be off, but I think her legs would look a little more realistically proportioned if they were shrunk down a little bit.
I don't know. Again, this is only an opinion (and a tired, late night one at that). Make of it what you will.
AMKitsune: @Armored-Struggle-Wagon: That's clearly because you're not thinking like a witch-hunter. The pineapple doesn't penetrate the armour, the armour opens up to make a small hole for the pineapple to pass through. It's common knowledge that practically all armour is partial to sweet, tropical flavours. On the other hand, most pieces of armour greatly dislike the earthy flavours of things like other metals and flints. That's why they protect so well against them.
AMKitsune: @Ritter: Hopefully the first of many to come :D
Really fantastic work here. I Love the little touches that you've added like the bottle and 'witch-hunter control panel' conforming to the contours of the snow. The only thing that I notice as being a bit off is the fact that there's a bit of black haloing around Katia's fire. Besides that though, a perfect way to start the new year XD.
AMKitsune: I realise that it's part of the shading/colouring style (and an amazing style it is to), but I can't help but think that after a long day of adventuring, she's going to need a bath XD
Adventurer dirt™ doesn't rub out of fur half as well as it does skin.
Also, I love how you've made her dark eye shadows work in this realistic style. Very well done indeed.
