AMKitsune: This and the accompanying QW page are some of my favourite 'human redesigns' out there. Not only are they adorable in their own rights, but they also keep the core essence of what makes Katia and QW who they are. Well meaning, a bit useless, adorable and tired of life's shit, has an air of being well travelled, also strangely adorable respectively. I hope we'll be seeing more of these designs in the future.

AMKitsune: The lighting and pose work so well in this. Really fantastic stuff :D

AMKitsune: @BadReligion: The 'uncanny valley' is a phenomenon where if you a graph of how 'human like' something is (or in this case, just how realistic it looks) compared to how relate-able/believable you find it. Near the 'realistic' end of the graph, at the part just before where something is so lifelike that it's believable, there's a massive dip in how much people like things that look 'almost believable' but not quite. This is usually experienced when you see a 'near perfect' CG model or a drawing or painting that's almost perfect but maybe has one or two aspects that are off just enough to prevent you fully believing in what you're seeing.

In this example, Mr Incredible is clearly meant to look like more of a cartoon character than an actual human. That's why so many people are at ease with his design. the characters from the Polar Express however, while quite well done, aren't quite perfect enough to be fully accepted as being believable humans (in your minds subconscious).

Honestly, I don't think this image is anywhere near the uncanny valley. It's a great picture but makes little to no effort at being '100% believable and realistic'. If it were rendered in a more photorealistic style as opposed to as a painting then yeh, that could potentially be uncanny valley material. As it is though, it's a really nice, stylised painting that your brain can easily interpret as such.

AMKitsune: @MetalC0Mmander: If the recent Dodger side story has taught me anything, it's that somewhere in Oblivion, 4 Daedra have just had their nether regions magically teleported to another dimension (and at quite the inopportune time from the looks of them... If you get what I'm saying.). It's no wonder they're always so pissed off!

AMKitsune: I can only agree with everyone else regarding the level of detail here. Absolutely astonishing pen work.

- Reply
AMKitsune: @Kazerad: I can imagine. That combined with the fact that it would probably have to be quite an expensive item that relatively few people would buy would make this more of a potential loss maker than anything else. A shame really. Oh well, at least we have all the other fine merch to keep us all satisfied XD

AMKitsune: Both topical and adorable...
You know what that means!

AMKitsune: I can only apologise for the shoddy/rushed job on this recolour. ASW mentioned the idea quite late at night. It was 1 in the morning when I finished this and the quality clearly reflects XD.
Just try to imagine the colour of the hood boarders nicely with the rest of the robes XD.

AMKitsune: Young lady, you reset that time-line right now or I swear, there'll be no more hugs before bedtime! I can tell it's you. That wig isn't fooling anyone.
I'm not angry with you. Just very disappointed...

Now let's roll back time and pretend that this never happened.

AMKitsune: Canine looking or not, it's such a unique, flowing style that the whole thing just works so well. Also, that eye shine and BIG. FLOOFY. TAIL!
Absolutely fantastic.

AMKitsune: Actually, I'll tell you what 'might' give you better results in the absence of a scanner.
If you have any kind of smart phone (or tablet) with a camera with a flash (or just a regular camera), you might get clearer pictures by setting the camera to take the highest resolution/quality pictures possible, turning flash mode on and taking the photo from a reasonable distance (so the light from the flash is spread evenly across the picture instead of being focused in a single area). That should get rid of any graininess caused by the low light levels at least. Who knows, depending on your particular setup, it could be better, worse or not make any noticeable difference. It'd be worth a try though.

AMKitsune: I'd absolutely love to see how these pictures of your look in higher quality some day. It's just such a massive shame that low light photos such as this detract from what would otherwise be an absolutely fantastic image. I'm actually surprised that being as talented a traditional medium artist as you are, you don't have easy access to a scanner.
Oh well...
These are still brilliant and I'm glad to see you're producing more, even after the contest :D.

AMKitsune: @Salamanakis: This is very true. Above all else, draw for fun, not because you feel you have to. As long as you're enjoying yourself, improvement will come without you even realising it. The day the whole thing becomes a chore, that's when you'll feel less inclined to keep at it and that's when you'll stop improving. Just think of it as drawing for your own benefit, but with the added bonus of being able to share your work with others whenever you want. Different people have different views on which outlooks are better. It all depends on how you operate as a person. There are no definitive right or wrong ways to push yourself forward. Just go about it whichever way feels the best to you and you can't go wrong.

AMKitsune: @MetalC0Mmander: Oh, I completely understand that. My point was simply that regardless of being questionable, the fact the a picture with what is essentialy a silly premise (buff, practially naked Orc man giving you 'a look') has such a realistically rendered style to it. Especially when compaired with other similar pictures. I genuinly teared up and laughed when I first saw this for pretty much that reason. There's no questioning its 'questionable' status. Looking back, where I said that no-one could be offended by it, isn't the best choice of words. What I was trying to get across was that I felt that it had such a degree of humor about it that no-one could view it purley as a 'to be taken 100% seriously' nude image. I was basically praising the artist for magaging to seemlessly combine such a serious style with such a silly subject.

AMKitsune: You say that you're learning to draw, yet here you have an example of what many artists actually aspire to. Sure, it's a cartoony style (not a bad thing by any means), but the pose works nicely, the anatomic proportions look good and in general, it all just works really well.
The only critical feedback that I could really offer here would be that her left arm (the right one as we see it) could hang a little closer to her body as it looks like she's standing quite stiffly as she currently is. Her hands don't seem to match the overall level of quality as the rest of the image, but most people have difficulty drawing hands and that's just something that you'll develop over time with practice. And finally, the angling of her nostrils don't seem to line up with the direction that the rest of her head's facing. That could be a stylistic choice, but in case it isn't, it's something that you might want to have another look at in your next drawings.
These few and relatively minor points aside though, it's a fantasticly fun, cartoony image that takes a clearly recognisable character and puts her a unique style that I hope we'll be seeing more of in the future :)

AMKitsune: I spent the first minute and a half to two minutes tearing up and trying to maintain a steady breath while trying to come to terms with the fact that you've drawn an image that by pretty much all modern social standards, shouldn't exist, but in such a magnificently detailed and well composed way that no one in their right mind could possibly be truly offended by it! (well, maybe some could...)
You've well and truly succeeded in confusing the morality part of my brain, and for doing it so utterly brilliantly, you have my full congratulations.
I'll admit though. The more I look at his expression, the more a feel a growing sense of reasonable apprehension.

AMKitsune: You see, THIS is an example of a scenario of where a trigger warning on the side of the checkers set would be appropriate.
"Trigger warning: Game rules contain references to royalty"
It's a serious problem! Don't judge!

AMKitsune: This texture work is simply sublime.
Not a word used very often, but very apt in this case.

AMKitsune: @Ladas2: In your case, that would be solved by instead putting your name as "artist:_Ladas2"
We don't know why this bug exists in the booru software, but at least we have this way around it when it occurs.

AMKitsune: It's the smallest of nit-picks, but shouldn't she have used the arrow of extrication by this point? Either way, absolutely adorable. If those Moth priests weren't blind, I'm sure they'd just give her the scroll if she asked nicely :3

AMKitsune: @Tahrey: You're most welcome. And it's pretty ridiculous, not all programs respect/acknowledge this 'rotation meta-data' and the ones that do don't necessarily interpret it in the same way. There's absolutely no standardisation to the process.

While it's a pain to do, you'd honestly be better off removing the meta-data from your images before uploading them to the internet. Not only might they contain slightly annoying things like rotation data, but they'll also have things like the date the picture was taken, the camera make and settings and possibly even location data if the option's enabled on your camera (and possibly other things that I don't know about).

There are a number of ways to strip this EXIF meta-data from jpg's but one of the easiest ways would be to use one of the many online meta-data removing tools. I actually created a 'Daedric fun tip' a while ago mentioning the whole 'image rotation problem' and included a link to a website that lets you view/remove the unwanted meta-data. I can't imagine that many people would have noticed it though. Daedric isn't exactly the easiest thing to read XD.

AMKitsune: @Tahrey: EXIF jpg meta data. Some cameras try to add 'rotation' data to the jpg that's created. Some site and programs use this data better than others...

AMKitsune: Without spoiling the surprise for anyone who hasn't seen yet, congratulations to the 3 winners! I was only expecting that we'd be getting a single winner per category, but apparently not. Even so, the winning entries are understandably deserving of their positions so it sort of makes sense to have multiple winners :D.

Now now ladies, I'm sure there's plenty of Dodger to go around.

Do you happen to have a version without the censor bar? I realise it serves a purpose here, but as a separate picture, it would be really nice to have Dodger with an unobscured face. Just an opinion.

Still, fantastic work here. You've captured the overall look of the comic perfectly.

AMKitsune: Huh I could have sworn that I'd previously commented on this... Apparently not.
Anyway, it's a pity that this couldn't have been scanned instead of photographed. The low resolution graininess doesn't do this amazing scene anywhere near the amount of justice that it deserves. There's no point listing of all the good points about this picture. I'd just end up listing everything.
Absolutely fantastic work!

AMKitsune: @Armored-Struggle-Wagon: It's a really good colouration, but Kaz is getting concerned that we're starting to get more and more 'simple edits' here on the booru. As great as edits like these are, the booru isn't really the best place for them. Kazerad's been hesitant to have them outright removed, but has agreed that people should be dissuaded from posting them here as more and more of these edits are appearing.

AMKitsune: Just to make things extra clear, I added Kazerad as an artist tag and put a link to the indiegogo project as the source for the original image. Edits like this (which are essentially 'cleaning up' Kazerad's other images) are often questionably eligible for posting here. Most people have absolutely no issue with them, we just need to be careful that we don't end up getting overwhelmed by them over new original content. If you do feel the need to upload an edit, be sure to tag the original artist (with the tag "Artist:ARTISTNAMEGOESHERE") and 'edit' (as you've already done here).

This is a good clear edit that's really well done. You wouldn't know it's a fan edit by simply looking at it. But it's also extremely similar to the original, which somewhat limits it's eligibility to be here as a piece of 'fanart'. I won't remove it (as that's not a call I feel I have the right to make alone for pieces like this) but just be aware that edits like this aren't always able to be considered 'new works' in their own rights.
